It was a really fun day on Friday presenting my research, archaeology and published work from the circa 1791-1820 William Pecker (1757-1820) Pottery in South Amesbury (Merrimacport), Massachusetts at the Bennington Museum in Vermont. I am very thankful for the opportunity to showcase this early stoneware production in front of such a knowledgeable audience. And thanks to Nathan Fisher for most of these pictures, a young scholar and dealer from Virginia who has handled some great stoneware in the past few years, including discovering a rare piece of Pecker stoneware that he found in the Midwest a few months ago.
Furthermore, I even learned that a rare example of William Pecker's stoneware production showed up yesterday morning at the Bennington stoneware tailgate. New York stoneware scholar Jude Hanley brought the jar that was adorned with a stamped flower covered in cobalt, whereas it is now in an important New York collection.
