19th Century Black Glazed Red Earthenware Jar Found in an Old House in Charlotte, Vermont

Here is a Brimfield, Massachusetts find from this week! I just picked up this circa 1820 black glazed red earthenware jar that I believe was made in Middlebury, Vermont from Vermont antiques dealer Greg Hamilton. It was just pulled out of an old house on Church Hill Road in Charlotte, Vermont, along with some of other Vermont pottery. 

Interestingly, an aspect about this form that I like is how it resembles some stoneware jars made in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama in the 1800s. A related although more colorfully glazed Vermont jar is on display in the Americana Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, which the museum acquired in the 1990s from Manhattan antiques dealers Garrison and Diana Stradling.
