A Former Antique Dealer's Estate Sale in Gloucester, Massachusetts

It has been about one-year since I attended an onsite estate sale in Magnolia, Massachusetts hosted by Cape Ann Auctions, which is also based in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Subsequently, I must have left my email address because I am now on this company's email list; whereas, earlier this week, I received an email from Cape Ann Auctions stating that they were holding an onsite estate sale in Gloucester on Wednesday October 7th at 4:00 pm.

According to Cape Ann Auctions, "In order to give everyone a fair shot at picks, there won't be any early birds allowed in. Bring cash, boxes, packing and plenty of courtesy for your fellow dealers. If we have a crowd it will be tight quarters."

The auctioneer also briefly described why the sale was held, "This sale is from the home of retired antiques dealer, Christina Rafter. It will be held indoors at her property which will soon be on the market. There will be hundreds if not thousands of smalls, unframed & framed art, a huge postcard collection, furniture, glassware, pottery, primitives and much more."

I was fortunate at this sale to discover a nineteenth century red earthenware chicken feeder or waterer that I feel was likely originally found locally by this former antiques dealer. This is also a form that I have been studying recently, which I believe was made in Peabody, Massachusetts in the 1800s or early-1900s; although, without these contexts of ownership, these type of objects would likely be attributed to another location today.
