Forthcoming Western New York Book is Complete and Heading to the Printer for Publication!

The proofing is complete of my forthcoming two-volume, 1,400 page, ninth book, titled, America's Great Awakening and Migration: The Red Earthenware of Western New York.  I anticipate it will be available to purchase in April or May 2025. I will post information on how to purchase it, as soon as it is available; I'm really looking forward to this book coming out!

The book will present lots of never before published material from the career of New York archaeologist and museum specialist George R. Hamell, including parts of an unpublished manuscript he wrote more than forty years ago, as well as hundreds of pages of archaeology he collected at numerous potter's sites in the Western New York region in the 1970s, now kept as part of the archaeology collections at the Rochester Museum & Science Center in Rochester, New York. The book will also present much of his collection that has never been published before, including dozens of pieces owned by the Rochester Museum & Science Center. 

This is how the format of each volume will appear:

Volume I: 701 pages, Chapters 1-17

Volume II: 699 pages, Chapters 18-37

Other subjects that will be included are dozens of objects that have never been published, which have been owned privately in Western New York for decades, many of which are adorned with glazes that transform the pieces into works of art. There will also be a heavy emphasis given to Erie County, New York, and the German influence in this region. The book will also include numerous objects owned by dozens of museums and historical societies located all over New York State. There will be lots of documents, paperwork, etc. There is also a section that discusses red earthenware production from elsewhere in New York State, including New York City and Long Island, as well as some stoneware production.

The names of the potters that will be highlighted from Western New York include Yost, Thorn, Whartenby, Shortstaff, Wagstaff, Rifford, Griffin, Wilcox, Prosser, Hurlbut, Pilsbury, Gates, Rochester, Kimball, Lewis, Drake, Gleason, Seymour, Mehwaldt, Johnson, Case, Suess, the Ebenezer Society, Cornell, Graham, Betz, Haven, Kinyon, Fenton, among many others!
