20th Century Photographs of Fires that Took Place at the Site of the Moses P. Paige Pottery in Peabody, Massachusetts

Earlier today, I posted an article about the Moses P. Paige Pottery in Peabody, Massachusetts, and some objects that I own from this potter's business today. Nevertheless, this was a potter's business, which was certainly not immune to fires.

The business sustained a major fire in 1915; although, managed to rebuild. This image is shown below and outside the building there is a huge stack of red earthenware pots that can be seen.

But the site of this pottery also burned in 1945 and 1954, where the latter is described today as a fire that "...nearly caused the destruction of the Wilson Square area in Peabody and put an end to the area's long history of pottery production dating back to the late-seventeenth and early-eighteenth century."

Note: Here is a link to the article that I posted earlier today that further discusses this important potter's business, which is comparable to the Stahl and Medinger families in Pennsylvania, where these businesses were able to sustain a style of production that was still in demand well-into the twentieth century.
