These are some more of the artifacts that were discovered by Maine collector and cabinet maker, Rick Poore at the site of the Bickford Pottery in Buxton, Maine, circa 1825-1880. They were all found in the area, where the Bickfords deposited kiln waste in the nineteenth century.
The objects include flower pots with attached saucers entirely decorated with colorful glazes on the exterior, as well as a flower pot saucer that has been entirely glazed. But I have also shown a colorfully glazed bowl, which is a style or form and glaze color that would probably not be regularly attributed to Maine today.
I also want to mention that this is not the first potter's site known in Maine - there are a number of sites that are currently known and privately owned, which also retain a lot of archaeological evidence about that nineteenth century potter's business.
Note: This is an amazing site in Buxton, Maine that is privately owned today; whereas, the location remains a secret until the property owners and the State of Maine determine how they want to proceed with the site. I have visited this site on a few occasions and I feel this site can really contribute extensively to what is known about the nineteenth century southern Maine potter's industry today.
