A Slip-Decorated Red Earthenware Dish Sells at William Smith Auctions in New Hampshire

There was some speculation in New England last week about the origin of this nineteenth or twentieth century slip-decorated red earthenware dish that sold at William Smith Auctions in Plainfield, New Hampshire. Furthermore, the plate sold for $1,200 plus the auction premium.

There is a similar object listed on Winterthur's website, whereas the museum's object is marked with its country of origin, as having been made in Portugal, circa 1900-1961.
