This is another piece of stoneware that sold last weekend at New Haven Auctions in New Haven, Connecticut, which was previously owned by Brooklyn, New York antiques dealer Steven Powers, as well as New York collector Peter Brams. I also believe it was consigned to the auction by the Walton family of such business ventures as Walmart.
Steven Powers originally described the jug as a "highly unusual and rare "Caucasian" face jug sporting a Van Dyke mustache and beard. The life-sized face is made from a stoneware body with a white bristol glaze and detailed with cobalt."
The jug is attributed to Ernest H. Galloway (1878-1910) in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky, circa 1900. The attribution is based on a known signed example, as well as others, along with a signed face jug that just sold at Case Antiques in Knoxville, Tennessee in January of 2020. It was found about twenty years ago at a yard sale in Oklahoma, then sold on eBay and purchased by Connecticut antiques dealer Robert Girouard.
According to Case Antiques, "There is an E.H. Galloway Pottery listed in the 1904 Paducah, Kentucky City Directory, and an Ernest H. Galloway listed in the 1900 United States Census as a "Jug Maker" in Paducah, Kentucky."
This jug sold for $9,750 plus the auction premiums.

Just wondering if that jug made it back to Kentucky. A serious Paducah jug collector that lives in that area would love to see that one. He was not aware of the auction.. he has an extensive collection.
