Nineteenth Century Northern New England Red Earthenware Jar Recently Found in Eastern Upstate New York Purchased Yesterday at Antiques Week in Vermont

This is the other piece of nineteenth century New England red earthenware that we purchased yesterday at Antiques Week in Vermont - finding this large jar in the booth of Glenmont, New York antiques dealer Jim Cocoman. It stands an impressive twelve inches tall! We were told the jar was recently discovered in eastern upstate New York, even though I strongly believe it was made somewhere in northern New England, most likely in Maine before 1840.

The characteristics that really spoke to me about this jar was certainly the unusual size, but even more so, the beautiful multi-colored dripping glaze. This is a really attractive piece of northern New England red earthenware!
