These are two original circa 1900-1915 blue glazed red earthenware Zodiac tiles made at Henry Chapman Mercer's (1856-1930) Moravian Tile Works in Doylestown, Pennsylvania that I found yesterday after work in Boston. This set (albeit extremely rare, if not near impossible to find complete) would have originally included twelve tiles, although written in pencil on the back of these tiles, it reads from left to right, "Virgo / Aug 23 / Sept 22," and "Sagittarius / Nov 21 / Dec 22."
Furthermore, these types of tiles are owned by some museums today, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
For more information - here are links to two articles that I posted in 2018 about Mercer's tile business and Fonthill Castle.
