Published in the February 3, 2023 issue of Antiques & Auction News is a story I wrote, titled, The Galloway Terra-Cotta Company of Philadelphia: A Brief History And Examination, whereas I also show and tell about an unglazed Grecian-style terra-cotta planter that my nephew Jason and I found at a flea market in Manhattan a few summers ago.
Nevertheless, this is another Grecian-style planter that I also believe was made at the Galloway Terra-Cotta Company in Philadelphia after 1900. Although, this example is decorated in a blue glaze; I found it in a vintage-type shop in southern Connecticut in October 2022. It is decorated with ancient-type swag and tassel decoration, which was a common style found on a number of the Italian-style garden wares made in Philadelphia.
Furthermore, there is a three number catalog number impressed on the base, which you find with some of the wares made in Philadelphia, however, I cannot read the number, seeing that the hole was drilled through it. But the manufacture of this object is also similar to some of the objects that I showed from one of the company catalogs that I referenced in the article.
