The Continued Study Into a Rare Red Earthenware Jar that was Discovered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

I wrote about a rare late-eighteenth or nineteenth-century red earthenware jar yesterday that was found a few years ago at an estate sale in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Personally, I believe the jar was likely made in Pennsylvania; although, verifying where this jar was actually made could be prove difficult since I have never seen another object like it before.

However, there are characteristics about this jar, which could also be compared to objects that were produced by red earthenware potters in upstate western New York in the 1800's. This comparison is very interesting.

1. The form of this jar is similar to jars, which were produced at the Lorenzo Johnson Pottery in Erie County, New York in the mid-nineteenth-century.
2. The incised decoration is comparable to decoration, which was applied at the Charles Gleason Pottery in Morganville, New York in the mid-nineteenth-century.
3. The highly unusual handles are somewhat comparable to handles that were manufactured at the Charles Mehwaldt Pottery in Bergholz, New York in the late-nineteenth-century.
