It was a good audience and fun time last night speaking at the Piscataqua River Decorative Arts Trust at Strawberry Banke Museum in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Tonight’s presentation explored Portsmouth’s rich tradition of red earthenware production from 1736 through the 1880s, highlighting the work of Samuel Marshall before 1750, John Shillaber during the 1760s and 1770s, and later the pottery enterprises of Winthrop Bennett and the Dodge family after 1790.
