A 19th Century Canadian Red Earthenware Jar Found Yesterday in the Thrift Store Near Boston

This is a $5 thrift store find from yesterday in Saugus, Massachusetts! Unfortunately, though, I do not know the context of ownership that this red earthenware jar with a slip decorated interior came from, but I do know that it was made in Nova Scotia in the late 1800s. And this type of jar was also recovered a few years back by archaeologist from the site of a nineteenth century tenement building located on property owned by the Old North Church in Boston’s North End neighborhood. I had suspected with that evidence that some Nova Scotia pottery was shipped to the Boston area, and perhaps that is the story with this object too, seeing that it is filthy and appears like it just came out of a local basement or an attic, etc., whereas Boston is located only a few miles to the south from the location of this thrift store. It is a theory, nonetheless!
