New Published Story in Antiques & Auction News: A Look At 19th-Century Red Earthenware And Stoneware Buildings, Houses And Log Cabins

This is the print version of my latest story published on pages 2 and 8 in the October 20, 2023 issue of Antiques & Auction News, titled, A Look At 19th-Century Red Earthenware & Stoneware Buildings, Houses and Log Cabins. This is a subject that has always intrigued me, largely as a result of some of the great related objects that I have seen through the years tucked away in various museum collections and storage facilities across the country.

Furthermore, after this article was published, I learned about this small nineteenth century stoneware log cabin that was made by the potter Patrick Synan (1861-1944) in Somerset, Massachusetts in 1909; he made it for his daughter Mary Synan (1903-1998), who brought the log cabin to her school for show and tell. The school was celebrating President Abraham Lincoln’s (1809-1865) 100th birthday. The Synan Brothers stoneware business operated in Somerset from about 1895 to 1912.
