A Rare Painted Sewer Tile Figure of a Cat Recently Found in New Jersey

This is a first for me - I have never seen anything like this before! Recently discovered in New Jersey is this late nineteenth or early twentieth century painted sewer tile cat (no glaze underneath the paint visible to me), which was probably used for either a decorative purpose or as a doorstop. However, it seems to me that based on the paint that this object was manufactured to imitate cast iron objects produced in America during the same period, such as doorstops, mechanical banks, among other forms.
