A Spotted Green-Glazed Red Earthenware Jar Attributed to Canada

This nineteenth century red earthenware jar also just sold yesterday at Maple Leaf Auctions in Carleton Place, Ontario. I haven't written a lot about this object today; however, this is definitely a good piece to see since I could easily see this object attributed to northern New England based on the glaze, especially the Osborn Pottery in Gonic, New Hampshire, where the majority of the production was not decorated with these glaze colors. I could also probably envision this object attributed to Galena, Illinois for the same reason.

But this is a type of attribution that really needs to go away. This type of spotted green-glaze was never unique to a single potter's business, location or even region. This type of glaze was produced all over the world, and this just so happens to be a Canadian example.
