I found this nineteenth century pitcher at a Massachusetts flea market probably ten-to-fifteen years ago, whereas at the time, I thought it was an odd shaped stoneware pitcher. However, yesterday I gave it a closer look and cleaned the exterior quite a bit, and I realized that it was actually a red earthenware pitcher with faint lines remaining of a black sponge decoration that are on both sides and the front of the pitcher, as well as on the handle and below it.
Furthermore, this does not strike me as an object that was made anywhere in the northeast; does anyone reading this post recognize this as a form made in a southern state, such as Virginia or Tennessee? That was somewhat of my first thought after giving it a closer look yesterday. Thoughts?
