An Advertising Envelope from the A.H. Hews Pottery in North Cambridge, Massachusetts

This is a good example of an advertising envelope that was recently found in Connecticut, which is from the A.H. Hews & Company in North Cambridge, Massachusetts. The envelope illustrates both the factory in North Cambridge, as well as the original red earthenware business that was established by Abraham Hews (1741-1818) in Weston, Massachusetts in 1765, who was both a potter and a farmer. The company eventually relocated with the American industrial revolution, whereas the envelope indicates the company was a “Manufacturer of Fancy Earthen Ware and Flowerpots.” 

Furthemore, the envelope is dated “February 28, 1900,” and is addressed to perhaps a merchant or a retailer in Bridgeport, Connecticut, whereas the Hews Pottery was known to ship some of its production in the late 1800s and early 1900s to New York City.
