This is a really good large circa 1958-1960s lead glazed earthenware double-handled vase made by Joe Owen (1910-1986) in Seagrove, North Carolina. Interestingly, two of Owen’s sons actually recently confirmed the attribution for me, and among the places that this type of pottery was likely exported for retail sale in the 1960s was Cambridge, Massachusetts. Additionally, be on the lookout this week for my latest story published in Antiques And The Arts Weekly about a matching pair of North Carolina vases that were just found in an old estate in Cambridge.
