I think this is a wonderful and probably unique example of American twentieth century stoneware that sold a few weeks ago on eBay that was recently discovered just to the north of Tampa in New Port Richey, Florida. Presumably, this is a presentation stoneware vase that is signed in cartouches "Warren Johnston / From Doc Bailiff / 1929."
The object is entirely hand-thrown and hand-modeled. It was also described by the seller as having been made from sewer tile, although it appears to me that it is more likely made from stoneware.
I also know this is a type of production that happened in places like Tennessee in the 1900s, but I'm sure it also took place in some of the other Southern and Midwestern states during the same period.
