Ancient Style Red Earthenware Ewer that Sold in York, Maine in 2007

While going through some old auction photos, I came across this painted red earthenware ewer that sold at Hap Moore Antique Auctions in York, Maine in January 2007. Described as being made centuries ago, it was previously owned by Esther Boise Van Deman (1862-1937), the first female Roman archaeologist (1901) and Carnegie Institute Fellow.

This piece was sold alongside actual ancient Roman pottery from Van Deman's collection, although, this object actually closely matches ancient style pottery made at the Charles A. Lawrence Pottery in Beverly, Massachusetts after 1872, especially some of the pieces that are owned by Historic Beverly. I suspect this is also a Beverly piece, and it must retain a great story for it to have been owned by Van Deman.

If anyone knows where this piece of pottery survives today - I would be highly interested in it. For more information about this type of production, I suggest a book I wrote that was published last year by Historic Beverly, titled, The Beverly Pottery: The Wares of Charles A. Lawrence.
