Day 3: The Antique Shows in Brimfield, Massachusetts - Thursday May 14, 2015

Yesterday, I wrote that I had wrapped up my visits to Brimfield, Massachusetts this week; however, that all changed this morning when I saw Ohio collectors and dealers, Emily and Ben Kreiner post a few pictures of themselves on Facebook waiting outside the May's Antique Market in Brimfield moments before it opened today at 9:00 am. Honestly, the pictures made me wish I was there - so, I made a last minute decision to drive to Brimfield this afternoon in hopes that I may find something laying around the field that didn't get noticed by the crowds earlier in the day.

Luckily, I did discover a few nice objects today - the first was found in May's Antique Market down towards the end of the field. A Pennsylvania antique dealer brought with him a basic glazed red earthenware flower pot that he had discovered in an old home in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, which is in the eastern-part of the state north of Philadelphia. I believe the pot dates from the nineteenth-century. Both the dealer - and, I felt the pot was made somewhere in Pennsylvania, Maryland or Virginia in the late-1800's based on the form and the glaze. The pot is covered in a dark manganese glaze. Personally, I really enjoy the crimped rim, which complements the crimped handles.

The second object I purchased came from Vermont antique dealers, Brian Bittner - and, his father. They told me this handled pot was found in Vermont. I believe it is an early-nineteenth-century pot that was made in Northern New England with a possibility of having been the product of a potter, who worked in New Hampshire. But, I also wonder if it is a Vermont product since it was found in Vermont. The pot was rather dirty when I purchased it, but it cleaned up rather nicely. I left the interior of the pot like it was found.
