Day two of the Alice (1938-2025) and Art "Bud" Booth Collection from Wayne, New Jersey picked up where day one ended at Pook & Pook Auctions in Downington, Pennsylvania. The depth of the Booths collection reflects a lifetime of discernment; some of their most significant objects date back to the 1960s-1980s, having been acquired from such notable Pennsylvania dealers as the legendary Haddie Brunner (1889-1982).
From the red earthenware and stoneware part of today's sale - this large nineteenth century six-gallon crock from New York, impressed "West Troy Pottery," was the most sought after object, being a quintessential example of New York State salt-glazed stoneware, featuring an impressive cobalt-blue slip-trailed decoration of a walking elephant, along with applied handles.
The West Troy Pottery mark (1843-1871) is the hallmark of a major nineteenth century stoneware hub in what is now Watervliet, New York. Its most famous era began in the 1840s under William E. Warner (1813-1871), who capitalized on the pottery’s prime location near the Erie Canal to ship goods across the country. While the pottery produced everyday jugs and crocks, it is celebrated today for its folk-art decorations—ranging from simple birds and flowers to rare, elaborate scenes of the American landscape (and elephants)—making it a cornerstone of New York’s industrial and artistic history.

Nevertheless, the Booths' crock also retains a significant twentieth century history of past ownership having been acquired from the Keno family in 1973; it was also published in the 2000 book, Hidden Treasures: Searching for Masterpieces of American Furniture.
