This is a good large nineteenth century double-handled red earthenware jar that is about five-gallons in size, which recently appeared in Western New York, and was likely manufactured after 1850 at one of Lorenzo Johnson's businesses in Erie County, New York. Interesting, the shape of the jar and the handles are also similar to a type of jar produced at Alvin Wilcox's business before 1860 in West Bloomfield, Ontario County, New York.
In fact, there was at least one connection found with Wilcox's company and the potters in Erie County by way of a potter named George Graham, which I wrote a feature story about for the August 16, 2024 issue of Antiques And The Arts Weekly, titled, An Important Red Earthenware Jug From Western New York: http://www.earlyamericanceramics.com/2024/08/new-feature-story-published-in-antiques.html.
