A Good Red Earthenware Pitcher Owned by the McCord Museum in Montreal

While researching a subject yesterday with various Canadian museum databases, I came across this pitcher, which I thought would be good to show, seeing that both the form and glaze somewhat resemble some wares made in places like Western New York and New England in the nineteenth century. However, this pitcher is actually owned by the McCord Museum in Montreal, and said to have been made at the James Taylor Pottery in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada, which was located along Lake Ontario and to the northeast of Toronto.

Interestingly, Taylor's pottery business operated until the 1930s, although if I were to come across a pitcher like this example outside of a Canadian context, then I may guess that it was made much earlier, probably mid-1850s or so.
