Beautifully Glazed Late-18th or Early-19th Century New England Jug Sells in Palmyra, Maine

Over the weekend, this late-eighteenth or nineteenth century lead glazed red earthenware jug sold at a small auction about 30 miles west of Bangor in Palmyra, Maine. Treasures Unlimited Auction kindly sent me these pictures of the jug last week, which I believe was made in either Essex County, Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire or Maine during the circa 1790-1840 period.

However, I did not bid, but I thought this jug was worth writing about; I believe it was consigned from a local home. The jug was also fitted for a lamp years ago; although, it is still an attractive piece of early New England pottery, adorned in a style of glaze that has been desired for decades by collectors and museums.
