19th Century Lead Glazed Red Earthenware Jar Recently Sold in Syracuse, New York

Late last month, this nineteenth century lead glazed red earthenware jar sold on eBay from Syracuse, New York, which was also reportedly found in Western New York. This is a type of jar and glaze that can be mistaken for production in Vermont and Maine today; although, this particular form is attributed to Western New York. In fact, I know the whereabouts of a very similar jar that is currently privately owned in a prominent Western New York Collection.

But while I cannot say who the potter is responsible for this object, it may have been produced in Ontario County or more specifically West Bloomfield, New York, during the circa 1830-1860 period.
