This nineteenth century slip decorated and inscribed presentation red earthenware handled ring bottle recently sold at Peter Ross Auction Services in Lunenberg, Ontario, Canada, as part of the collection of Albert Lefebvre of Ontario. A similar shaped presentation red earthenware ring bottle is owned as part of the Harbinson Collection at the Canadian Museum of History that is said to have been made in the Cornwall, Ontario area, which is located on the St. Lawrence River.
According to the museum, "This harvest ring was made by John Elliot shortly after he emigrated from Ireland to Aultsville, on the St. Lawrence River near Cornwall. Harvest rings are an uncommon form in Canada and to find an example from this early period that is signed and dated, coupled with the extensive decoration, is truly remarkable. Inscribed on one side are the words “John Elliot Manufacturer of this Jug When this you see Remember me.” It is also dated "May 8, 1846." Nonetheless, this ring bottle sold on April 1, 2025 for $25,200 (Canadian) plus the buyer's premium.
