Red Earthenware Jar Found in Lititz, Pennsylvania in a Great Size and Form

This is another object I purchased last week while on vacation with my nephew Jason. We found this small late-eighteenth or early-nineteenth century southeastern Massachusetts red earthenware jar from Bristol County at the 57th Annual Lititz Historical Foundation's Antiques Show in Pennsylvania. The dealer had it displayed in a cupboard filled with pottery from Pennsylvania.

To my knowledge, this is the smallest formed jar of this type made in Bristol County; although, I have only seen a few examples in this size, including one in the collection of Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. I believe that this form of jar may have also served as the source of inspiration for a similar formed jar that was reproduced at the museum in the twentieth century.

We were also told that the jar was recently discovered in a house in central Pennsylvania by Lititz antiques collector and dealer Andy Kmiec. We were quite thrilled with learning this information after finding this small jar, which survives in excellent condition today.
