I asked the group shop keeper if he knew any information in regards to the history of this jug, but he said he did not. He said he thought it had been in the dealer's collection for sometime.
I believe this jug was made somewhere in southern Maine during the circa 1820-1860 period; unfortunately, though I can not provide more specific information since there were a number of potteries in this part of Maine in the 1800s, and there was some overlap in form and certainly with glazes. Regardless, I feel this is among that group of glazes that are highly prized today from the nineteenth century potters in northern New England.
